Dear Guest,
Welcome to Bucher Elementary School where “character is doing the right thing when no one is looking.” Our school was built in 1973 and was named after the late Caleb W. Bucher, a prominent area educator and former district administrator. During the planning stages of the building, open space construction was popular, and Manheim Township School District embraced the open space layout. Our present enrollment is approximately three hundred (300) students in kindergarten through fifth grades. We also house an additional thirty (30) students that attend the district’s Extended Day Kindergarten.
Bucher’s two goals for each academic year are to ensure that our students excel in both academics and behavior. That is, we are committed to providing an instructional program that targets each student’s strengths and weaknesses without compromising the goal of excellence. We also take great pride in our character education signature. We know that the building of character improves academic achievement. The staff’s commitment in teaching and adhering to high expectations in moral character (respect, honesty, and responsibility, and etc.) and performance character (diligence, self-discipline, perseverance, and etc.) is commendable.
Our students take great pride in their service learning projects – character education in action. These projects have included the “Giving Tree” (Office of Aging and the Humane Society), Jump for Hearts (American Heart Association), Fifth Grade Kindergarten Buddies, Environmental Centers, and Veterans’ Day Celebration …just to name a few. Our Character Education Mural, inspired and completed by students, illustrates how our community (students, staff, and parents) embraces service learning and moral character. It is a constant reminder to all of us of the importance of reaching out to others and protecting our environment.
Bucher parents are second to none. We have a very active PTO and Parent Character Education Core Team. Their partnership has raised academic success and improved moral character while providing memories and fun for our students. Please take time to review the Bucher Family Newsletter that includes the work of the PTO and the Parent Character Education Core Team.
Sincerely,
Jennifer B. Mack
