The list below (and the terms displayed in the "Wordle" to the left) is a summary of the computer programs & links to FREE online Web 2.0 tools that was shared during our "iDeas for Health" session at the 2009 PSAHPERD Convention in Valley Forge, PA.

These technology tools can be teacher or student generated, and the tools can serve as: lesson introductions/overviews /attention-getters, surveys/inventories, writing prompts, collaborative/individual projects, presentations, assessments, etc.



iMEDIA*
- Programs using images, videos, music, voice-over recordings, and text to create digital files
  Audacity - FREE online program to record & edit sounds; Mac AND PC compatible; download available at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Fireworks - image editing program (part of Macromedia suite)

GarageBand - allows the user to make/mix recording using tracks from musical instruments & sounds; standard Mac program

iMovie - creates movies from photos, recordings, music, & video clips; incorporates optional text, titles & transitional effects; standard Mac program (PC option: Movie Maker)

iPhoto - used to import image files; standard Mac program

iTunes - used to import music files; plays the final, exported movie file; standard Mac program (PC option: Windows Media Player)

PhotoBooth - captures user’s photo with built in camera; offers morphing & special effects to photos; newer version also records video & sound; standard Mac program

Podcasts - any audio or video file that can be delivered via the Internet; can use various programs to record the content

WEB 2.0 TOOLS
- FREE web-based tools / programs that offer collaboration, project creation, material collection & web-access
  Animoto - creates multi-transitional movies with images, video clips & music; material from the user or from Animoto’s library; URL: http://animoto.com

GoogleDocs
- create & edit web-based documents, spreadsheets & presentations (.ppt, .xls & real-time surveys); URL: http://www.google.com/

LetterPop
- easy-to-use, pre-designed templates; presents information via newsletters, invitations, collages, summaries, magazines; user may upload own image files (drop & drag into project); completed project is assigned a web URL address that anyone can view; URL: http://letterpop.com/

Moodle
- web-based course management system; URL: http://moodle.org/

Voicethread
- media album that allows people to record voices, upload images & upload documents; shares album for others to view, and even post feedback & questions; URL: http://voicethread.com

Voki
- allows people to create a customized, speaking avatar; offers computerized voice or may record own; URL: http://www.voki.com/

Wikis
- online webpage allows users to add postings & edit the website content without having to know or use any special webpage design program or html; access granted to enrolled users; URL: http://www.wikispaces.com

Wordle
- program generates visual “word clouds”; URL: http://www.wordle.net/

MICROSOFT OFFICE PROJECTS
- additional uses of MS programs beyond traditional word documents, spreadsheets & powerpoints; “design & presentation programs”
 

Brochures - informational displays of textual & visual content in a tri-fold layout; sometimes called a pamphlet

Magazine Interviews
- follow-ups to a real or fictitious interview, displaying the Question & Answers along with graphics & visuals

Musical Slideshows
- a slideshow that engages multiple learning styles through textual content, visual support, and an audio element

Newsletters
- short publications that visually displays information on a periodic basis

Reflective Scrapbooks
- collections of images, graphics, charts, graphs, video or sound files that are assembled into an electronic multimedia format with an introspective analysis

Timelines
- visual representations of sequenced events arranged in chronological order using researched information, photos and text
