Dear Schaeffer Families,
It is impossible to put into words how quickly time has passed as we are rapidly coming to the conclusion of the school year. It seems as if we were dealing with the snow and cold weather only a short time ago. Now, we are preparing for summer vacations, summer camps, and time by the pool.
Our school year has been filled with many new opportunities for our students. Our 1:1 iPad initiative was implemented much earlier than anticipated. At the K-4 level, all of our students had access to an assigned device in February. Teachers and students alike learned how to utilize this tool to support learning. At Schaeffer, our students participated in STEAM activities, which opened the door to critical thinking and collaboration. Our students have mastered new grade level content, and in many cases, have shown tremendous growth in their ability to problem solve.
As a team, our school district continues to look for ways to make even greater impacts in the educational program that we offer. Beginning in the 2018 – 2019 school year, a new K-4 elementary schedule will be implemented. As part of the new schedule, our elementary schools will operate on a six-day cycle. Our administrative team is excited that all students will have the consistent opportunity to attend all academic and special classes without the worry of missing those classes due to weather or a day off during the week. In addition, our K-4 schools will be focusing on how to support student behaviors. Our MTSS behavior focus will include the inclusion of daily classroom meetings at the K-4 level. This will help our schools and classrooms foster a collaborative, caring, and compassionate environment. All teachers will be trained to implement morning meetings in the classroom, as a way to foster team building, learn life skills related to communication, and practice problem solving strategies. These tier 1 supports will be in place to help support students in making good choices for themselves and reminding their classmates to do the same.
Again, as this school year winds down, we are able to look back and see all that has been accomplished. We can also take a look forward to see the positive future direction ahead of us. It is my wish for you that you take some time to look both ways and just enjoy the journey and the view with your child.
Wishing you the best this summer and in the years to come. Be sure to relax!
