Happy October, Bobcats!
The Brecht Community has great activities planned for the month of October. Our school theme for October is cooperation. Cooperation is working together to accomplish a goal. At Back to School Night, I referenced Brecht’s “non-negotiables” which are listed below. Brecht Teachers will refer to these non-negotiables to foster a growth mindset with our students. What is a growth mindset? Carol Dweck, a Professor of Psychology at Stanford University explains, “It is a belief that a person’s abilities and intelligence can be developed through practice, hard work, dedication and motivation.” I encourage you to use these non-negotiables at home to help promote a growth mindset.
Brecht non-negotiables: (These connect with the Bobcat 5: kindness, cooperation, respect, responsibility and excellence)
*We write and speak in complete sentences.
*We all have room to grow.
*We never give up!
*We explain our thinking.
*We respect each other.
*Everyone belongs and matters. We are a team!
*We accept responsibility for our learning.
*We perform the way we practice.
*We come to school everyday!
The office needs your help! Please note that during student arrival (8:45-9:00 a.m.) and student dismissal (3:40-4:00 p.m.), we are asking parents to avoid visiting the school office unless it is an absolute necessity. Thank you for your cooperation as we focus on our students arriving and leaving safely during these times.
A communication note: I will be using School Messenger to communicate important messages with our school community. With School Messenger, you will automatically receive emails with the email that you provided to the school district. If you need to update your email for our records, you can do so through your Sapphire Parent Portal account or by contacting Brecht’s Office at 717-291-1733. Teachers will be using Seesaw to communicate. If you haven’t signed up for the Seesaw app, make sure you do that right away. It’s a great way to be informed on what your child(ren) are doing at school. Thank you for your communication!
Remember there is NO SCHOOL for students on October 5th and October 8th. We will have our School Picture Day on October 9th. The Bobcat Dad’s/VIP Breakfast will be October 12th from 7:30-8:30am. We hope to see many students and the important male role models in their lives for this event. We are excited to recognize National Hispanic Heritage during September and October. During this time, we will be sharing information about famous Hispanic heroes during our morning announcements.
The Brecht PTO has great things planned for our school community during October including:
October 12th– Race for Education- this will occur during the school day. Thank you for your help in raising money for our school!
October 23rd– 6:00-7:30 p.m.- International Night
October 26th – Spirit Day. The last Friday of the month is a special day to recognize students who have been demonstrating the Bobcat 5!
I thank you for being involved in your child’s education. It’s by cooperating and working together that we can partner with you to help your child grow and learn.
