Dear Manheim Township Community;
We share in the outrage of what took place in Minneapolis and in other tragic incidents like this one. Racial injustices need to be addressed and remedied in order to achieve a more peaceful future.
The Manheim Township School District provides an education to students representing a rich diversity of race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status, and we are proud of this diversity. We have the unique opportunity to help shape the future for students from many cultures and backgrounds. The core values of Manheim Township School District are to provide a safe, welcoming, and nurturing educational environment for all students to inspire life-long learners and contributing members to our communities. We recognize that all students and staff deserve to be treated with respect, fairly, and equally. We take pride in all of our students, and work side-by-side to meet this mission involving representatives from all stakeholder groups.
During this challenging time, we feel it is important to reaffirm our commitment to welcoming all students from all backgrounds to our schools and our commitment to provide students and staff with a safe, respectful, civil environment for learning and teaching. As a district, we have a responsibility to ensure that we are doing our part to be respectful and welcoming of all races and ethnicities, and to continue fostering empathy and kindness among our staff and students. We have programs in place, throughout the district, for our students and staff that include diversity training, such as Rachel’s Challenge, Gay Straight Alliance, the Attollo Leadership Program, and our recently established Black Student Union at Manheim Township High School. But it does not stop here; much work remains as we continue to listen to one another, support each other, and engage in conversations to share our unique perspectives.
Our Manheim Township community is a better place because of our diverse population. We can all do better, and we must do better to provide a bright future for all children.
