Dear MTSD Families,
The purpose of this letter is for parents to confirm or to change the learning option that their student(s) is(are) presently in. At this time, we are asking that families commit to their learning option choice for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year.
You may read below for more details. Or, you may proceed to the bold text toward the bottom of this document for instructions on how to confirm your learning option for the remainder of the school year.
We are pleased with our progress in providing instruction during this unique school year. We are grateful to the many professional staff members and other stakeholders who had significant input in the design of our Health & Safety Plan. We are also pleased with the efforts of our teachers, administrators, and staff members as they have all worked so hard to successfully make instruction happen for both our face to face and our remote learners. We continue to honor our Health & Safety Plan and adhere to the requirements and considerations provided by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), Pennsylvania Department of Health (PA DOH), and the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE).
As shared during our summer communications with families, we remain committed to the provision of educational options to our families – options that allow some students to return to school, and others to remain at home. While we know that it is impossible to create a plan that satisfies the expectations of every family in the district, even within these parameters, we recognize that one common priority among all of us is the health, safety, and the wellbeing of our students and staff in all programming options.
We will continue to offer the same three instructional options (Option 1: Face to Face; Option 2: Remote learning with MT teachers; and Option 3: Fully-remote online instruction with non-MT teachers). All three instructional options allow us to function in the three-phase color matrix (Green/Yellow/Red) used by our state government.
If you are comfortable with continuing with your current (marking period one) learning option, for the remainder of the school year, there is no action required on your part.
If you would like to change your instructional option for marking period two, please login to the Sapphire Community Web Portal and complete the form entitled “20/21 Education Choice – Marking Period 2.”
If opting to make a change, responses are due by Noon on Friday, October 9, 2020.
Please note that approved changes in instructional options will not be initiated until the second marking period begins on Monday, November 2, 2020.
Again, we are pleased with the implementation of our Health & Safety Plan and the instruction that has been provided for our student population. We thank you, our families, for your continued support and communication as we move further into the 20-21 school year.
Sincerely,
Dr. Robin L. Felty
Superintendent of Schools
