Steering Committee #2 for Reopening Schools

Brody, MarcieJuly 8, 2020Reopening Our Schools - Fall 2020

Dear MTSD Families,

The calendar shows that we are almost at the middle point of our summer break; I hope you are enjoying these summer months. We just facilitated our second of three Steering Committee meetings last evening.  This second meeting involved a presentation on the proposed instructional programming options for this fall, respective to the Pennsylvania color-coded mitigation phases. The Steering Committee heard information about several proposed educational options for the Green and Yellow phases; Red is the school shutdown phase (which we just experienced during the 4th Marking Period this past school year).  During the meeting, the Steering Committee also received responses to the many comments and questions provided after the first meeting on June 30. There were 54 pages of questions and/or comments to share with the respective Task Forces – and we are very pleased with the positive responses provided by the committee along with the thoughtful questions for further review and consideration.

The Steering Committee also learned more about how our district is planning to address the Governor and the Secretary of Health’s Order for the wearing of face coverings (masks or face shields) by students and staff this fall.  The mandate (Expanded Mask Wearing Order) for the wearing of face coverings for students requires us to change our original proposal from the June 30 meeting. Given this new requirement for locations where students cannot be spaced at least 6 feet apart, which comprises a good portion of the school day, our committee learned about how we will support students in the wearing of face coverings.

As with the June 30 Steering Committee meeting, below is the Powerpoint presentation that holds the important information, as well as we have included a link to a recorded video of the meeting.  All interested families can watch the video and/or read the PowerPoint information and send any questions or comments to us at the email provided with the video.

This final plan will be presented at a special School Board Meeting on Thursday, July 30, at 7:00pm in the high school auditorium.  The Board Meeting will also be live streamed for public viewing.

Our next communication will follow the third Steering Committee Meeting during the week of July 21-25. We will continue to keep you updated in our planning process by posting all information on our website at the Planning for Reopening of Schools Fall 2020 page. As always, thank you for your continued support in our planning to reopen schools this fall.

Sincerely,

Dr. Robin L. Felty
Superintendent of Schools

As part of our comprehensive planning process, on Tuesday, July 7, we facilitated our second of three Steering Committee meetings. The second meeting involved a presentation on the proposed instructional programming options for this fall, respective to the Pennsylvania color-coded mitigation phases. We also recorded the Steering Committee meeting to allow all interested families to listen to the information and send any questions or comments to us at the email provided with the video.

You may click through the presentation and review the slides, or you can click here to watch a video the Steering Committee Meeting #2 that took place on July 7.
